CATWALK – a pilGrimAge

During my artist residency at L'Observatoire in Singapore, I did a walk called "CATWALK – a pilGrimAge" from L'Observatoire to Bukit Timah Visitor Centre, which is situated in one of Singapore's National Parks.

This wander made me wonder, why we wear wild prints, and why we drink. And finally inspired me to do a landscape (painting).

Gallery Go

A wearable gallery was one of the projects I did as an artist in residence at Untitled Space in Jinze, Shanghai. For quite some time I have worked with the idea of creating a lighter and even more mobile version of House of Wild Wood Woman. I use the latter as a gallery, a hermit house and a platform for site-specific projects. However, setting up a tent, even for a few hours, often requires permission, so I wondered if it could be possible to make an autonomous art platform or gallery so light and ephemeral, that it freely moves around, crossing in and out over territories, borders and bridges.
For the project in Shanghai I made a simple dress of white canvas. Imagine! Instead of painting a traditional landscape on a white canvas, I decided to cut it up, sew a dress from it and walk out in the landscape wearing it - becoming part of it.

Fashion Revolution is a global movement initiated by consumers as well as producers of fashion asking us to become aware of how fashion is linked to our environment. We ARE the landscape!

MacRitchie Me

My journeys into MacRitchie, Singapore's wild forest, became a journey into my own perception of nature - and the deeper into the wild I went, the stranger everything became.
In an attempt to adapt to the forest and the strange strangers I encountered on my way, I designed new clothes, and soon I became a stranger to myself.

I come from (Teddy) Bear Land

I might dress dangerously, but I cannot run away from the fact that I come from Teddy Bear Land and not Bear Land.
My perception of nature is coloured by growing up in a country where the most dangerous animal is a tick.
I would love to go to Bear Land one day, but I am not sure whether I can get a VISA - bears don't like humans - with good reason!
